Suangyee’s over-budgeted London trip [24.01.2008-29.01.2008]

The London trip was an eye-opener. A few days visit to the one of the major global city has given me various kind of experiences and changed my perspective of life. It broaden my view and redefined about what I want to pursue in life.

I was considering about applying for my internship in this fast living-pace city. And after the trip, I think I have made my choice..

As a grown up child in Kuala Lumpur, I think that I should be able to cope up with the city stress life. The only issue that worries me is to deal with the high living cost because it is the time I have to be financially independent and learn to stand on my feet. Can I still expect for financial help during my internship year?

As an archi student, it fascinated me more because of the opportunity to visit few famous buildings that I always see in the images through the architecture books and magazines. The experience in the building spaces, the closure to the details and the feeling of the materiality are the things that I could never get from the books.

Our journey…

By the time we reached London, it was already quite late. Most shops are closed and all of us were tired after the trains and flight travel.

Our bed & breakfast hotel…
(The guys had to rent a separate 3 person sharing room in another hotel as our initial plan to sneak everyone in had failed)
It was very windy on the first day…
and we started our adventure to the must-visit-London eye, one of the city icons.
London eye was the highest /tallest observation wheel, now lost its title to Singapore Flyer, which has an overall height 30 meters greater.
and had fun with the landscape around..

visited Tate Modern Art Gallery

The masterpiece in Tate Modern Art Gallery.
They were looking for the missing me in the crack.

The Queen Elizabeth concert hall..
looking at the map…
Issac, our tour guide.. he deserves the best tour guide award for his patience to wait for everyone to take loads of photos at each destination.

Journey continues on second day at…

Tower of London

London City Hall…

The 4 “girls”..
Trafalgar Square which commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar and the National Art Gallery..

Nelson’s Column
The architecture icon, Swiss Re

A must visit building for archi students..

On the last day, we missed our flight and rented a car…
Driving adventure in UK…
4 hours to Manchester then another 4 hours to Glasgow
Managed to drop by at the Imperial War Museum and Cambridge..

Was quite empty and personally, I think that there is nothing special about the building..
Did not visit the hall that costs me £12.

Cambridge
Instead of driving all the way back to Glasgow, we had a night in Manchester to visit Nic, Alex and the QS students from Taylor’s College.

Drinking night fun..

Nasi Lemak in chinatown!!!
and also had chinese and korean food
